Experienced hunters will tell you that one of the most essential pieces of equipment for Elk hunting is a good pair of boots, and the Under Armour HOVR™ Dawn WP Boots did not disappoint.

What we liked:
I bought these Under Armour boots for a backcountry Colorado Archery elk hunt in mid-September in Southwest Colorado. The majority of the hunt was at elevations ranging from 9100 ft to 10,600 ft, and temperatures ranged from the high 30s to low 90s throughout the hunt. Each day consisted of 8-12 miles of hiking on terrain ranging from sharp rocky cliffs to soft and slippery canyons covered in aspen and pine leaves/needles. I had high expectations for these boots, and they really lived up to my expectations.
The Under Armour boots were very lightweight but durable and held up well during the entire hunt. I wore sock liners under wool socks every day, and my feet stayed nice a dry and had no issues with blisters and only mildly sore feet after about day 8. The three things that stood out for me the most with these boots were the lightweight design, the grip the soles provided on steep terrain, and these boots feature an external heel counter for added balance. The extended heel made taking the boots off much easier.
Who we think will like this product:
These boots are best for the early-season archery or muzzleloader hunter before the weather gets too cold. They are not designed to be a cold-weather boot, and with only a 6” overall height, I wouldn’t recommend these boots for a southern hunt without some added snake protection. These were designed as a backcountry boot, and that is the sweet spot for those who would most benefit from these boots.

Cons
- Not suitable for a cold-weather hunt and more of an early-season option, but Under Armour does offer a 400 gram insulated version
- Low profile does not offer much in terms of snake protection, eliminating them as a viable southern state option
Nick Zinsmeyer
