Overview
Spika is an Australian-based company specializing in gun safes, hunting clothing, and accessories. I was not familiar with the Spika brand until I found this pack shopping. The reviews for this pack were solid, and the price point was very competitive, so I decided to purchase one. I had an external frame pack that I used for a Colorado elk hunt previously, and it was very uncomfortable and too bulky for my liking. I decided to go for an internal frame pack that was lighter but still sturdy enough to pack out larger animals if needed. On my first hunt using this pack, I successfully got a mature whitetail buck and a cow nilgai that I packed out with this Spika Drover Hauler Pack. I was extremely pleased with the versatility, functionality, and comfort of the Spika Drover Hauler Pack.

Spika Drover Hauler Pack and Frame
$260-$280The Spika Drover Hauler Pack comes in a 40L and an 80L model. The pack can be detached from the internal frame to pack out larger game. I own the 40L model and was able to quarter down an entire Texas Rio Grande Valley whitetail and fit it inside the pack itself without having to detach it from the frame. The bucks in this area had smaller bodies, and this buck field dressed at only around 100 pounds.
I also fit an entire Nilgai hindquarter in the pack, and this animal weighed approximately 300 pounds. This Spika Drover Hauler Pack is set up for a water Camelbak-type system and features several convenient pockets and storage compartments, as well as zipper access to the main compartment for quick access. The Spika Drover Pack also comes with a rain/snow cover and can hold a rifle or bow on the back.
This pack is hard to beat for the price, and you can plan on paying more for similar brands in this class.
- Comfortable pack for traveling in light and traveling out heavy
- Durable construction suitable setup for bow or rifle hunting
- Lots of storage compartments for large and small items
What we liked:
The Spika Drover Hauler Pack is well made and super lightweight, coming in under 6 pounds. It was very comfortable even under a heavy load and after wearing the pack for all-day hunts. It has several conveniently located storage compartments for easy access to gear and hydration systems and is sturdy enough to pack out as much animal as you can carry. I especially like the small compartments on each side of the pack’s belt strap, which kept my range finder on one side and flashlights/extra ammo on the other. The rear vertical zippers allow quick access to the main storage compartment without having to open the top of the pack.
Who we think will like this product:
This Spika Drover Hauler Pack is great for hunters who need to pack out game from their hunting spots or pack in enough gear for multi-day hunts. It has enough storage room for individuals wanting to bring enough gear for a spike camp or tent camp setup. It comes in a larger 80L pack for major gear transportation or a 25L pack (without frame) for smaller hauls. This pack would be great for hikers and campers, also. It has enough room for plenty of gear and equipment.
Pros
- 40L of storage space and detachable pack to operate as a frame system for packing out game
- Large and small storage compartments for quick and convenient access to gear
- Very comfortable design even under heavy load
- With a price under $300, this pack competes with much more expensive models in this class
Cons
- I had to stretch to find something I disliked about this pack. The only thing I would list as a con would be that this pack is only available in Biarri Camo or Olive Green colors
