Irish Setter VaprTrek Waterproof Snake Boots

$220

I purchased these waterproof snake boots for my first Arizona archery elk hunt last season as I wanted a lightweight boot with support that I could really put some miles on, but that wouldn’t kill my feet for high mileage days. I also wanted waterproof snake boots that I could use in my normal hunting range of South and West Texas, and the 17” snake protection caught my attention.

These boots are versatile and offer scent control, waterproofing, and snake protection, along with a lightweight sneaker fit.

  • Unique lace-up, over-the-calf fit providing protection and comfort
  • Durable, but flexible material for added comfort
  • Flexible sole provides good traction for climbing and comfort for long-distance treks

What we liked:

I used these waterproof snake boots for my first archery elk hunt in Arizona in mid-September. My hunt primarily took place at 6600 – 7600 feet elevation with mostly rocky or pine needle-covered terrain. I logged 8-12 miles of hiking every day and morning temperatures were in the low 40s, with afternoon temperatures reaching as high as 80 degrees some days. Our hunt was mostly dry conditions, although we did get rain one day. The boots kept my feet dry, but my feet didn’t sweat excessively, even in the warmer afternoons.

These waterproof snake boots offer a unique fit, and the first two things you notice when you put them on is how lightweight they are and how they feel with the 17’’ lace up over-the-calf design. This is a fit and feel that you can only get with this lace-up design. I like the added support, waterproofing to just below the knee, and sneaker fit around the foot and ankle on these boots. The scent containment is noticeable when you take off the boots after a long day, and the snake protection is a solid feature for the southern hunter but not as necessary in Western and Northern state hunting.

I put the waterproofing to the test for these boots, and after harvesting and field dressing a 373” elk, the boots were covered in blood. To clean them, I literally wore them while taking my truck through a car wash and sprayed down the boots (while I was wearing them) with the car wash pressure washer. They cleaned up very easily, and my feet stayed completely dry even while spraying them down with the pressure washer at the car wash.

Who we think will like this product:

These waterproof snake boots are best suited for the brush country or swamp hunter, where the 17” height and snake protection offer added safety from fangs, stickers, and cactus needles. For western states and more mountainous terrain where the over-the-calf protection is unnecessary, these boots are a little overkill, and a lower profile boot is better suited.

Pro Tips:

I still like these boots and continue to wear them for my hunts in Texas. However, this year I went to Colorado for early season archery elk hunting and purchased a different boot, the Under Armour UA HOVR™ Dawn WP Boots for that trip. It was a higher elevation hunt with minimal need for the almost knee-high protection.

Pros

  • Lightweight at less than 30 oz per boot
  • 100% waterproof and breathable material with scent protection
  • Unique design offering snug fit and snake protection to just below the knee
  • Flexible sole for added comfort and grip in a variety of terrain

Cons

  • I can not get these waterproof snake boots to fit right for me. The snug fit around the calf seems to limit blood flow to my feet, and my toes start to get a numbing sensation after several hours of wear
  • These are not slip-on/slip-off boots. It takes a little time to put them on and take them off with the almost knee-high laces
